“No Longer a Science Project” – Aero-TV segment from AirVenture

Aero-TV just posted an interview with Tony Settember about the eSpyder program. In addition to the interview, the Aero-TV camera crew captured GWI’s team at AirVenture as they assembled the plane for display, and they caught the formation routine where two eSpyders performed in the main airshow on August 1st.

GWI would like to thank our outstanding team at AirVenture 2013 including: Tony Settember, Chris LeFave, Don Wade, Kim Prout, Mike Settember, and Mike Polley for launching the eSpyder into the market and bringing electric flight much closer to the global general aviation community.

e430 Flight Testing Resumes

While GWI was busy at Oshkosh last week as we launched the eSpyder and demonstrated it in front of the crowds, several members of our team were working hard on the next step in our electric aviation program. On August 1st, e430 airframe #8 took to the skies in California and has made several flights since then.

This airframe represents a significant evolution in the e430 development program and brings GWI several steps closer to completion of this revolutionary two seat LSA-class aircraft.

Work will be continuing for the remainder of 2013 to complete development, with the goal of the e430 entering the market in 2014. Please follow us on our mailing list and on this website for further developments in this exciting program!

GreenWing just finished displaying the eSpyder at the AirVenture show 2013 in Oshkosh where crowds of people got to see the planes on the ground and in the air. The show attendees and media had a huge amount of interest in the world’s first practical affordable electric planes to go on the market.

The two eSpyders at Oshkosh flew a total of 12 flights during the week, and performed a formation airshow routine on Thursday August 1st in front of a crowd of around 100,000 people. At the show GWI took its first orders for the eSpyder after announcing that it is now on sale in the US and Europe (with more regions coming soon). The era of clean, affordable, quiet recreational electric flying has arrived!

The eSpyder is now on sale – the electric revolution begins

GreenWing is happy to announce that we will officially be taking orders for the eSpyder starting Monday July 29th at the AirVenture 2013 show in Oshkosh, USA.

The eSpyder will be sold as an experimental amateur built kit in the US at a price of $39,990 for the complete kit that includes everything you need to fly. We will also be taking orders for completed aircraft in Europe where the eSpyder has achieved German DULV certification. The price in Europe is 34,990 Euros.

GreenWing is only currently taking 25 orders in the US and 25 in Europe. We want to make sure we can give our initial customers outstanding service by limiting initial production.

We expect to make the first deliveries to customers in the 4th quarter of 2013.

Keeping the Speed Under Mach 1

We had another meeting with the FAA today and they have been great to work with as we explore the frontiers of electric flight. However we will now have to revise our airshow routine for Oshkosh to keep the speed under Mach 1 (see actual photo below of the revised eSpyder prototype Operating Limitations issued today). Its good to see the FAA has a sense of humor and we all had a good laugh about this today while we met.

At the end of the day I was back in the sky in one of the eSpyders and just barely managed to comply with the newly issued speed restriction while cruising at Mach 0.049. We are working hard to get an authorization under 14 CFR 91.817 from the Office of Aviation Policy Planning and Environment so we can resume the supersonic portion of our flight test program. Until then we’ll be operating around Mach 0.05.

The announcement of the formation of GreenWing International to market and support the eSpyder and e430 electric aircraft has been met with significant interest by aviation enthusiasts around the world. Introducing GreenWing International

Aviation enthusiasts following the development of electric powered aircraft already know the name Yuneec International, which first displayed at AirVenture 2009. The Jiangsu-based company (just north of Shanghai) will continue to focus on developing the most advanced and most reliable technologies for electric motors and power systems, but GreenWing International (GWI) will now handle production of the eSpyder and e430 electric aircraft. GreenWing International is a new company formed in 2013 to bring the revolution of electric flight to the global general aviation market.

GWI will be bringing several eSpyder aircraft to the upcoming AirVenture 2013 event in Oshkosh, WI for ground and flight displays. The single seat eSpyder will be the first GWI aircraft to enter production later in 2013.

The eSpyder fleet continues to log more hours every week as electric flight makes the transition from being an experimental technology to a reality for general aviation pilots around the world. Erik Lindbergh Takes First Electric Flight

Recently Erik Lindbergh, a major supporter of clean affordable electric flight, was able to make his first flight at the controls of an electric aircraft. After five years as a strong proponent of electric flight, Erik was able to take flight recently, as captured in the above video.
